GATE 2012 Notification, Eligibility, Application Procedure and Results Info
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE-2012) notification has been announced by IITs. GATE is a popular examination in India conducted for admission into Post Graduate Courses such as ME/ M.Tech in Engineering in IITs. Apart from prestigious IITs, other reputed engineering institutes like NITs, famous Government, aided and private post graduate colleges also consider GATE 2012 scores for admission to various post graduate programmes. The GATE exam will be conducted jointly by IISC Bangalore and IITs. GATE 2012 qualified candidates will get scholarships / fellowships by MHRD if they join in post graduate programmes in Technology/ Engineering / Architecture / Doctoral Programs in relevant branches of Science in any recognised institute or college. GATE is an essential qualification along with Bachelors Degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture or Master's degree in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications to get admission in Post Graduation / Doctoral Degree. Following are other details of GATE 2012-13 eligibility, application procedure, subjects, results, score:
Qualification and eligibility: Applicants with following degrees are eligible for GATE 2012 examination:
1. Applicants should have B.E./ B.Tech . in Engineering / Technology/ Architecture (4 years courses after 10+2). Those in final or pre-final year also eligible to apply. OR
2. Candidates with PG in Mathematics/ Science/ Statistics/ Computer Applications also can apply. Those in final or pre-final year of these degrees also eligible. Candidates in the 2nd or higher year of 4 year Integrated courses and 3rd and above years in 5 years Integrated Masters programs and Dual Degree students also eligible to appear for GATE 2012. Candidates with professional qualification such as AMIE, AMICE, ICE etc also can apply for GATE 2012.
GATE 2012 will be conducted in following papers: Agricultural Engineering / Mining Engineering/ Mathematics / Biotechnology / Engineering Sciences/ Computer Science and Information Technology / Civil Engineering/ Architecture and Planning / Chemical Engineering / Aerospace Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Geology and Geophysics / Instrumentation Engineering / Chemistry / Electronics and Communication Engineering / Production and Industrial Engineering/ Physics / Mechanical Engineering / Metallurgical Engineering / Textile Engineering and Fibre Science / Life Sciences.
Application Procedure: Candidates can apply online or offline to GATE 2012. To apply online, candidates have to pay the fee first and later login to the GATE 2012 website. To apply offline, you need to purchase application form from IIT Zonal Offices or Designated Bank Branches across India and have to send completed applications (online or offline) along with all relevant copies of certificates to respective Zonal Offices on or before prescribed date.
There are some changes in the GATE examination from the recent past. GATE 2012 Examination will consist of 65 Objective Multiple Choice Questions (except AE and TF papers) with 3 hours duration for a maximum of 100 marks. There will be negative marking for wrong answers. GATE 2012 paper shall have General Aptitude (GA) section carrying 15 marks. This is common for all candidates.
